As with any industry, some carpet cleaners are better than others. There are plenty of professional carpet companies out there who will indeed do a proper job of cleaning your carpets, but others will cut corners wherever possible to squeeze as much money as they can from their hapless customers. In many cases, they don’t even know how to clean a carpet properly- so here’s what to watch out for to ensure you don’t get stung.
First things first, be on the look out for prices that seem a bit too good to be true. This is a classic bait-and-switch move, where you are reeled in with a cheap quote, and then presented with a much bigger bill than you expected. Not only that, but since these people will rarely (if ever) be real, certified carpet cleaners, you’ll end up paying through the nose for a substandard job. For this reason, it’s best to ask for credentials before you hire any carpet cleaning company- if they are the real deal, then they will be able to back up their claims.
You’ll also want to check beforehand that the company offers a formal, written service guarantee on all their work. If you don’t have something on paper, then the company are free to do what they want, and you have no proof to back up your side of the story. Finally, check the type of machines they use- whether they are portables or truck mounted. Ideally, you’ll want to opt for a company with truck mount machines, since these provide a better quality clean.
Follow this advice, and you too can avoid getting caught out by shoddy carpet cleaners. If you do come across cleaners who aren’t up to standard, make sure to let people know- you can either review their service on sites like Yelp, or report them to the Better Business Bureau.
